Contest Divisions:

• Children's Division (Junior High School Student or younger)
  子供の部 (中学生以下)
• Original Kite Division (Non-Tsugaru Kites) 創作凧の部 (津軽凧以外県外伝統凧等)
• Tsugaru Kite* A Division (8 or fewer "Nisho no Uchi" panels** )
  津軽凧一般の部Ａ、西の内８枚版以下
• Tsugaru Kite* B Division (9 or more"Nisho no Uchi"panels** or more)
  津軽凧一般の部Ｂ、西の内９枚版以上
• Team Division (20 or more "Nisho no Uchi"panels**)
  団体の部  (西の内２０枚版以上)
• Ladies' Division (time undecided) レディースの部 (時間未定)

* The frames of most Japanese kites are made of bamboo, but Tsugaru Kite frames are made of Hiba wood (false cypress). Another distinctive trait of Tsugaru Kites is their long tails.
